Contains the following types of materials: photographs, post cards, photo albums. General description of the collection: The Charles D. Herron photograph collection consists of several albums. The first is the class year book of the West Point Class of 1899. Subsequent albums are dated: 1905-1908, 1918-1923, 1927-1929, 1940-1941 and reflect Herron's sevice during those periods, as well as family activities which are also found in those albums. Because of his several tours in the Philippines, numerous photos are of terrain, the city of Manila and natives. There are several photos of Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines. Most of the World War I photos are Army Signal Corps shots. Other photos reflect his assignments at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a vacation trip to Yellowstone Park and his service in Hawaii. Interestingly, there are no photos of his World War II service. One folder contains portrait photos of many general officers of the 1920s to 1940s. general officers of the 1920s to 1940s.

Major General (MG) Charles Douglas Herron graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1899 and began his career as an infantryman. In 1905, he was posted to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where he attended the Infantry-Cavalry School and the Army Staff College. From 1908 to 1910, he was assigned to the staff of the United States Military Academy. After several short assignments, he was sent to the Panama Canal Zone at the end of 1914.
